In the last few weeks, we have seen unusually high numbers of cases of tick paralysis in dogs and cats at the Noosa District Animal Hospital.

As a pet owner, it is important to understand that on the Sunshine Coast the ‘tick season’ lasts all year!

Paralysis ticks (Ixodes holocycles) are endemic on the Sunshine Coast. Whilst bushy rural environments can be tick hot spots (Doonan & Verrierdale), we will see cases of tick toxicity in pets who rarely leave their back yard or landscaped neighborhood paths.
